MONCKS CORNER — Santee Cooper will conduct routine tests of its 15 Santee Dam warning sirens in Berkeley, Clarendon and Williamsburg counties on May 21.

As part of the test, the state-owned utility will set off each siren in test mode, which includes about a one-minute alarm followed by a pre-recorded message and a live announcement concluding the exercise.

Employees will collect information on the wail time, message clarity, completeness and volume for both the pre-recorded and live announcements. The tests are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and last a few minutes.
