WILMINGTON, N.C. — The National Weather Service is warning about rip currents along the Carolinas coast.
Forecasters in Wilmington have issued an advisory saying rip currents can be expected Friday in southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina.
The advisory is in effect through Friday evening for Brunswick, Pender and New Hanover counties in North Carolina as well as Horry and Georgetown counties in South Carolina.
Forecasters say that easterly winds combined with a new moon will generate strong rip currents, which are powerful channels of water moving quickly away from the shore.
The most likely time for rip current conditions is early Friday afternoon.
