Riley documentary airs Thursday night on ETV

Then-Charleston Mayor Joe Riley talks with members of the “The Music Battery” kids percussion group during the “Thanks Joe” celebration held at Brittlebank Park in October. South Carolina ETV will air a documentary on Riley at 8 p.m. Thursday.

South Carolina ETV will air a documentary on former Charleston Mayor Joe Riley on Thursday.

“The Mayor: Age of Riley” was directed by Barbara Tranter and produced by Jennet Robinson Alterman, both Charleston residents. The film traces the career of Riley during his four decades as mayor and features interviews with Riley and dozens of local friends, family members, allies and observers.

Tranter and Alterman followed Riley for his final four years in office, and the film includes archival footage of Charleston in the civil rights era — a time when Charleston’s longest-serving mayor came of age.

The documentary airs at 8 p.m. Thursday on SCETV. It will be rebroadcast on at 4 p.m. Sunday and at 6 p.m. April 24.
