South Carolina Medicaid recipients whose personal information errantly was released in April have one week left to sign up for free credit monitoring.

The S.C. Medicaid agency is providing one year of free monitoring through Experian’s ProtectMyID Alert “to give beneficiaries peace of mind,” the S.C. Department of Health and Human Services said. The service includes:

• A credit report

• Daily credit monitoring to detect any suspicious activity

• A $1 million identity theft insurance policy

More than 14,733 South Carolina Medicaid beneficiaries have enrolled in the credit monitoring services to date. Private medical records and financial information were not a part of the data errantly released.
