Registered sex offender sentenced to life without parole

Johnny Tamar Brown

A registered sex offender who sexually assaulted a 13-year-old in front of her 2-year-old sister will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Johnny Tamar Brown, 35, of Hughes Road on Johns Island was convicted Wednesday of two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and one count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, according to the 9th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

In June 2013, Brown stopped by to visit the victim’s mother, found the 13-year-old baby-sitting her little sister and assaulted her, according to the prosecution.

Brown had previously been convicted of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and two counts of burglary. A Charleston County jury convicted him of the new charges, and Judge Deadra Jefferson sentenced him to life without the possibility of parole.

“We sought the mandatory life without parole sentence to stop this predator,” Solicitor Scarlett Wilson said in a statement Thursday. “The whole case is sickening and made even worse by the fact that the defendant was a registered rapist being ‘monitored’ while abusing this child.”
