The Red Cross is inviting new volunteers to attend an orientation seminar to learn about opportunities with the organization.
Seminars will be held at the Red Cross office near North Charleston City Hall from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 24.
The Red Cross is especially in need of volunteers to be trained to go to the scene of home fires to help provide services to families, the agency said in an announcement Thursday.
"Red Cross volunteer opportunities allow residents to make a powerful and positive difference in their community," Louise Welch Williams, regional chief executive officer for American Red Cross of South Carolina, said in the announcement. "There aren't specific criteria to meet when joining the team; if you are compassionate and dedicated, we have a place for you at the Red Cross."
The Red Cross will also hold volunteer seminars in Georgetown, Bluffton, Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach, Florence, Columbia, Greenville, Rock Hill, Spartanburg, Pickens, Camden and Sumter.
