A North Charleston municipal court judge decided Monday to move forward the case against a former assistant softball coach accused of raping one of his players.

Michael Dean Daniel, a 42-year-old Summerville man, appeared free on bond and among family members Monday mroning. One of his Fort Dorchester High School softball players, 14 years old at the time, told her parents in March that Daniel forcibly had sex with her two years earlier, according to a police report.

An incident report says Daniel picked up the girl to take her to his house to spend the night with his daughter. The girl told police that he pulled into the cul-de-sac of an undeveloped subdivision and raped her.

The municipal court judge bound the case over to a grand jury. Read more in Tuesday’s editions of The Post and Courier.
