MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Some neighbors don’t like the idea, but a go-kart track amusement park is being built and should open in Myrtle Beach by summer.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports the park owned by The Track in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, is being built in the Restaurant Row area. It will have multi-level go-kart tracks, an arcade and a hall for the Shriners.

When first proposed in 2014, neighbors objected because of traffic and noise from planned gas-powered go-karts.

The developers retooled the project deciding to use quieter electric go-karts and dropping plans for a Ferris wheel and kiddie boat rides.

But George Johnson of LStar Communities, the owner of the nearby Grand Dunes development, says the amusement park is still not a compatible use for the property.
