Powder Puff Football combine set for Saturday in North Charleston

Last year’s Powder Puff Football champions, the Lady Eagles of Military Magnet School.

Female athletes who participated in the North Charleston Police Department’s Powder Puff football league last year will compete Saturday morning in the 2015 Powder Puff Football Combine.

The competition starts at 9 a.m. at the former Stall High School football field on Pinehurst Street. It’s part of the Cops Athletic Program and is also sponsored by the Days Inn Motel on West Montague Avenue.

The Powder Puff competition includes the 40-yard dash, bench press, vertical jump, broad jump and three-point cone drill. The drills measure the athlete’s linear and lateral abilities, upper and lower body drive, quickness, explosion and agility, according to publicity for the event.

The competition also allows Powder Puff coaches to evaluate talent.

North Charleston police officers coach the teams.

The COPS Athletic Program is designed to offer youth the opportunity to interact with police officers in a positive setting.

“In addition to being a game of fun, the games introduce the players to teamwork, character building and professional development,” Capt. Terrell Palmer, the program’s coordinator, said in a statement.
