The Post and Courier was named Newspaper of the Year by the Local Media Association on Wednesday.

In the category for newspapers with 30,000 circulation and up, The Post and Courier was honored by the judges, in part, for its coverage “analyzing and contextualizing the police shooting of Walter Scott.” Judges went on to write that “The Post and Courier emerged as the clear winner in a very tough and competitive category.”

Second place in the contest went to the Hamilton (Ontario, Canada) Spectator and third place went to the Daily Herald in Everett, Wash.

The Local Media Association serves more than 2,200 local media companies across North America.
