Police seek attempted child abduction suspect

Police say this man tried to abduct a 14-year-old girl.

A 12-year-old girl told Summerville police a man in a white work van tried to abduct her while she was walking home last month.

Police released a sketch of a suspect Tuesday.

The girl said she was walking along Ladson Road toward Planters Retreat Apartments around 3 p.m. on May 29 when a man in a white van rolled down the driver’s side window and said, “Hey, sexy, I have something for you,” according to the incident report. She told police she had seen the van earlier when she was walking from the complex to the Speedway gas station.

The girl said she kept walking, and the man jumped out and grabbed at her blouse. She said she ran toward the complex with the man chasing her. She told police that the man ripped her blouse trying to grab her.

The man is described as white, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, about 210 pounds, with a round face, gray mustache, wrinkled skin and freckles. The girl also told police he had a raspy voice and that she had never seen him before. She said the van had windows on all the doors and a Gatorade logo on a window.

A witness told police she heard the girl screaming as she ran back to her apartment. The witness said she also caught a glimpse of the white van.
