Police searching for man accused of using board in assault

Charleston police are searching for a man accused of hitting another man in the face with a 4-foot piece of wood.

Delonza Antonio Simmons, 44, is wanted on a charge of second-degree assault and battery, Charleston police said. He is described as a black man, 172 pounds, standing 6 feet 1 inch tall.

Simmons was named as a suspect in an alleged attack that occurred Friday on South Street, according to an incident report. A witness told investigators Simmons hit a man on the back and face with a wooden board, causing a cut above the man’s left eye.

A reason for the alleged assault was not mentioned in the report.
