A West Ashley street was teeming with police Thursday afternoon soon after a man who was shot there wound up at a convenience store around the block.
At 2:05 p.m., the man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds walked into the Kangaroo Express at 904 St. Andrews Blvd., according to Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis. He was taken to Medical University Hospital and his condition is not known.
The shooting happened on Tripe Street in Maryville, just around the corner from Kangaroo, Francis said. Officers put up crime scene tape blocking off part of the road for a couple hours after the incident.
They had one man in the back of a police cruiser and were questioning him, and several other men stood waiting by an SUV nearby. One investigator was knocking on doors in the residential area and another spoke to a small group of women down the road.
Francis has not yet identified any suspects.
