North Charleston police identified a suspect in an armed robbery Wednesday at Walgreens, spokesman Spencer Pryor said.

David Burkhead Abbott is accused of entering the store at Ashley Phosphate and Dorchester roads with what appeared to be a knife in his pants and presenting a pharmacist with a note demanding Oxycontin.

The robbery happened about 1:30 p.m. A short while later, officers responded to 8476 Signal Island Lane in reference to a possible Oxycontin overdose and found Abbott unresponsive. Investigators found evidence at the scene consistent with the events at Walgreens.

Abbott, who is being treated at Trident Hospital, will face armed robbery charges, Pryor said.

This case is still under investigation.
