Moncks Corner police arrested a 20-year-old woman accused of posting a note in a bathroom stall that falsely implicated another woman of child abuse.
Stella Patricia Gaillard, of Gilway St. in Holly Hill, is charged with false report and malicious damage to property.
The incident happened July 19 at a Moncks Corner Walmart, at 511 U.S. Highway 52.
While at the store, a female agent with the Department of Social Services found a note written in blue ink on the back of a stall door.
The note asked for help, claiming the writer was being abused by her mother and was living in constant fear, an incident report said.
The message provided a phone number belonging to 24-year-old Gabrielle Washington from Slim Jim Road in Santee.
Police contacted Washington, who at first believed the calls to be a hoax, the report said.
After police explained that she was implicated in child abuse, Washington named Gaillard as a possible suspect. Washington cited the suspect’s previous relationship with her boyfriend as possible motive, Moncks Corner police spokesman Lt. Michael Roach said.
Gaillard admitted to officers that she wrote the note, the report said.
