2 plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter in Oconee County

WALHALLA, S.C. — Two men charged with murder in Oconee County will serve lengthy prison terms after reaching deals with prosecutors and pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter.

Area media outlets report that 28-year-old Joshua Michael Fulbright was sentenced Thursday to 22 years for the slaying of 61-year-old Richard Alan Marzalek of Westminster in December of 2013.

Authorities said the victim was beaten and left for dead beneath a burning house.

In the second case, 39-year-old Joshua Randall Ferguson received 15 years Thursday in the shooting death of 46-year-old Charles Benson Cantrell of Salem in November of 2013.

Police said that shooting resulted from an argument between the two men. Ferguson lived in a camper next to Cantrell’s home.

The plea deals reached with both defendants allow no chance for parole.
