Pedestrian killed on U.S. 17 near I-526 in West Ashley

Part of U.S. Highway 17 near Interstate 526 was blocked for more than two hours after an auto-pedestrian fatality Monday morning in West Ashley.

The victim is 63-year-old Scott Stallings, according to the Charleston County Coroner’s Office. He died at about 5:45 a.m. at the scene from blunt head trauma, said Bobbi Jo O’Neal, chief deputy coroner.

Stallings was hit and killed near Advance Auto Parts, and southbound traffic was diverted, according to the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, which is investigating the death. The road reopened around 8:30 a.m.
