MOUNT PLEASANT — A coyote surprised a bicyclist on Harry Hallman Boulevard this morning, the latest among recurring sightings of the newly resident animals in this suburban town.

The coyote stepped from the woods onto the sidewalk as Mike Mitchell pedaled down from biking the Cooper River bridge, gazed at him and then loped away before slipping back in the brush.

“I’ve seen them a couple of times. They’re real skitterish,” he said.
