Palmetto Primary Care Physicians closes two offices

Palmetto Primary Care Physicians closed an office in Goose Creek. Some patients say they weren’t notified of the closure.

Palmetto Primary Care Physicians recently closed offices in Goose Creek and Hanahan, but a spokeswoman for the company would not explain why.

“PPCP does not comment on the private business matters of the partnership,” Vivian Walton said. “Our top priority is and will always be our patients. While we strive to notify patients in a timely manner of changes, we are at times limited by issues beyond our control.”

Palmetto Primary Care Physicians continues operating another Goose Creek location and a nearby urgent care center. The company owns more than a dozen medical offices across the Lowcountry.

Walton said the shuttered Goose Creek office at 105A Springhall Drive will likely reopen later this year. The Hanahan office was located at 1254 Yeamans Hall Road.

She did not offer an immediate update on plans for the Palmetto Health & Wellness Campus. The $135 million proposal was unveiled by Palmetto Primary Care Physicians two years ago. It has been planned for the Nexton community, located just off Interstate 26 in Summerville and would include two 150,000-square-foot medical office buildings, an ambulatory surgery center, a 24-hour urgent care unit and rehabilitation services.

The project was originally scheduled to be completed this year, but it is unclear if Palmetto Primary Care Physicians still intends to move forward with construction.

Goose Creek and Hanahan patients who want copies of their medical records should call 843-820-3300 or go to the company’s website, palmettoprimarycare.com.

Nason Medical Center, another popular health care provider, unexpectedly closed all five Lowcountry locations last year.

Some of those offices will reopen later this year and early next as Roper St. Francis Express Care centers.

Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this story reported that Dr. Patricia Campbell, the Goose Creek practice’s founder, and physician assistant Diana Alford recently left Palmetto Primary Care Physicians. The office where Campbell and Alford worked, at 110A Springhall Drive in Goose Creek, did not close following their departure. Palmetto Primary Care Physicians closed a practice located across the street, at 105A Springhall Drive.
