One man is in custody in connection with a Tuesday night shooting in Walterboro that left another man with a wound to the head, police said.
Jamal Ferguson, 21, of Yemassee is charged with attempted murder, discharging a weapon within city limits and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. He is being held at the Colleton County jail.
The shooting occurred at 404 Witsell St. shortly before 7 p.m. Police found 20-year-old Nyhiem Gadsden of Cottageville inside an apartment with a gunshot wound to the back of the head, according to a police report.
Gadsden told police he was talking to a woman outside the building when a man came up to him and began arguing. Gadsden told police he turned to leave when the man pulled out a gun. He heard a gunshot as he was walking away and a bullet struck him in the back of the head, the report stated.
He was alert and taken to Colleton Medical Center in stable condition, according to a source at the scene.
