MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Authorities have identified a woman who washed ashore in Myrtle Beach more than two years ago.

Police tell local news outlets 56-year-old Robin Ann Kelly of Raleigh, North Carolina, was identified through DNA comparisons with her family members.

Her body was found in May 2013 after it washed up on the beach. The Horry County Coroner’s Office says Kelly’s death was ruled a drowning.

Myrtle Beach police spokesman Lt. Joey Crosby says several local agencies launched an investigation to identify the woman, who was found wearing a bathing suit and had a unique tattoo on her ankle. She didn’t have any other forms of identification.

Crosby says leads from all over the country were investigated until recently when someone from the family recognized the victim’s markings and contacted police.
