North Charleston police on Thursday arrested a man suspected of robbing a Super Kmart store of prescription drugs.

Alexios Panagiotidis, 30, of Stadium Drive in North Charleston was held Thursday at the Charleston County jail on armed robbery and public intoxication charges, jail records show.

Panagiotidis was arrested shortly after police responded to the reported theft at 6:15 p.m. Thursday at 8571 Rivers Avenue, police spokesman Spencer Pryor said.

A man had approached the store’s pharmacy counter and asked for Oxycodone, one victim told police.

The man spoke in a low voice and the victim asked him to repeat himself, she reported. That’s when he grabbed his waist band, gestured as though he had a weapon and said “this is a robbery,” according to an incident report.

The woman didn’t have access to Oxycodone, the report stated, so she filled a bag instead with Zyrtec, blood pressure pills and an asthma inhaler.

The man then fled, the report said.

A witness reported talking to the man earlier in the day when he walked into the store and asked to refill a prescription. The witness had the man’s information on file, which was given to investigators, according to the incident report.

Bail was set at $75,200 on the charges, jail records show.
