The man who was killed on Interstate 26 this morning has been identified.

He was Donald Coy, 46, of North Charleston, according to Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury.

Coy was driving a 2012 Toyota Prius east on I-26 when he ran off the right side of the road and hit a tree about 2:45 a.m. near the 201 mile marker, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol. He was wearing a seat belt, and nobody else was in the car.

Coy worked in the engineering department at The Post and Courier.
