A 21-year-old North Charleston man was arrested Tuesday after police say he robbed a taxicab driver on May 28 on Fleming Road.

Ryan Lewis of Remount Road is charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. Lewis was being held in the Charleston County jail and has yet to post bail in the amount of $150,000.

About 5:45 a.m., Paradise Express Taxi received a telephone call from a man who requested to be taken from Fleming Road to the intersection of Remount Road and Attaway Street in North Charleston, according to the Charleston Police Department.

A driver for the cab company arrived and was flagged down by a man in the 200 block of Fleming Road. The man and the driver discussed the amount of the fare. The man didn’t have enough money and told the driver he would get more for the fare, according to police.

The man turned away as if he were leaving. He quickly turned back around, allegedly pointed a handgun at the victim and robbed her.

Detectives identified the suspect by the telephone number that was used to call the taxicab company. The investigation is ongoing.
