North Charleston firefighters contain blaze at landfill

North Charleston firefighters on Monday battle a blaze that consumed 1.5 acres of the Republic Services landfill on Palmetto Commerce Parkway.

Firefighters contained a blaze early Monday at a North Charleston landfill.

Crews from the North Charleston Fire Department got to the landfill at 8101 Palmetto Commerce Parkway at 3:21 a.m. and found a large pile of pallets on fire, agency spokeswoman Bianca Bourbeau said.

Flames burned about 1½ acres of the Republic Services landfill before firefighters contained it. The crews were working to extinguish the blaze, Bourbeau said before noon.

Nobody was injured.

Smoke was expected to linger near the parkway, Dorchester Road, Patriot Boulevard and Ladson.
