North Carolina man dies in early morning Colleton County crash

A North Carolina man died Sunday morning after his vehicle struck some trees in the median on Interstate-95 in Colleton County.

A North Carolina man died early Sunday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate-95 in Colleton County.

Robert W. Leaky, 67, of Hendersonville, died of blunt force trauma to the chest, according to Colleton County Deputy Coroner Richard Carter.

Sgt. Bob Beres of the S.C. Highway Patrol said the crash occurred just before 3 a.m. on I-95 at the 54 mile-marker. Leaky was driving a 2005 Dodge pickup when he ran off the left side of the road and struck the trees in the median.

He was wearing his seat belt, Beres said, but died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.

Colleton County Fire-Rescue officials reported that Leaky’s dog survived the crash.
