ANDERSON, S.C. — Anderson County sheriff’s deputies say no charges will be filed against a Piedmont man who shot and killed his nephew earlier this week.
Lt. Sheila Cole told local media that investigators think the man was acting in self-defense when he shot and killed 40-year-old Timothy Lee Owens.
Investigators say the two men argued Monday. Sheriff John Skipper said the man called 911 and told the dispatcher that he had shot his nephew and thought he was dead.
Cole said Wednesday that the forensic evidence gathered at the home supported the man’s claim that he was defending himself.
Cole said the man had repeatedly told Owens to leave the home and felt threatened when he shot him.
Deputy Coroner Charlie Boseman said Owens died from a gunshot wound to the chest.
