Newborn rescued from trash bin in Horry County

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Horry County police say a newborn girl was rescued from a dumpster in Socastee by two teenage brothers who were throwing away trash.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports the mother turned herself in after police released photos of her.

Lt. Raul Denis says the woman will be charged later Friday. He says the eight-pound-six-ounce infant is healthy.

Jessica Price told WPDE she called 911 after her 19- and 13-year-old sons heard crying coming from the container and found the infant about 2:30 p.m. Thursday. She says the infant was inside a trash bag. Her umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck.

Under Daniel’s Law, a newborn can be legally abandoned, but the infant must be left in someone’s care at a police or fire station or hospital.
