COLUMBIA — Dozens of music conductors from around the world are working to improve their baton techniques at the University of South Carolina.

Students at the Conductors Institute are scheduled to get on Saturday a tutorial from conductors and composers who have vast experience in the commercial, academic, and professional worlds of music.

Members of the public can get a rare behind-the-scenes look at the art of conducting on Saturday. Sessions are being held at the Koger Center for the Arts.

The Conductors Institute of South Carolina is funded in part by the South Carolina Arts Commission, which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts. The institute has been held at USC for 28 years.
