With Charleston County schools opening Monday, Mount Pleasant police are reminding drivers that officers will be out in force enforcing traffic safety laws.
Operation Safe Start will center around school zones and bus stops, Inspector Chip Googe said. Officers will monitor pedestrian and vehicular traffic around schools, and they will also watch school buses to make sure drivers are complying with the law.
State law requires drivers on two-lane roads to stop in both directions when a school bus stops and flashes its amber or red lights. On roads with four or more lanes, drivers traveling in the same direction as the bus must stop.
