Mount Pleasant police have identified a woman who used a counterfeit $100 bill at a convenience store, they announced Thursday.
The woman walked into the Circle K on Mathis Ferry Road shortly after 9 a.m. Sunday and tried to pay for gas with a $50 bill that the clerk decided was fake, according to an incident report. The woman then handed over a $100 bill that the clerk accepted, but it also turned out to be counterfeit, the document stated.
The woman told the clerk that she had gotten the bills at a hospital, the report added. An officer walked through East Cooper Medical Center but didn’t see anybody who looked like the woman.
A day after he released surveillance images of the woman, Inspector Chip Googe of the Mount Pleasant Police Department did not immediately say on Thursday how investigators eventually identified her or whether she faces any charges.
