Mount Pleasant police find woman who used counterfeit bill, no charges filed

Mount Pleasant police have found the woman who used a fake $100 bill at a gas station.

Officers are investigating and have not filed any charges, Inspector Chip Googe said Thursday.

The woman walked into the Circle K on Mathis Ferry Road shortly after 9 a.m. Sunday and tried to pay for gas with a $50 bill that the clerk decided was fake, according to the incident report. The woman then gave the clerk a $100 bill that she accepted but later turned out to be counterfeit, according to the report.

The clerk said the woman told her she got the bills at the hospital, which the clerk assumed meant East Cooper Hospital. An officer watched the surveillance video of the transaction and walked through the hospital but didn’t see anybody who looked like the woman on the video, according to the report.
