MOUNT PLEASANT — A town ordinance limiting the size of “big box” retail outlets received a vote of support today from the Planning Commission.

At issue was whether the town should repeal an ordinance that limits one retailer to 70,000 square feet unless the project is on more than 50 acres.

More than a dozen people spoke against scrapping the related text in the ordinance because they feared it would pave the way for plans for “big box” retailers on The Gregg Tract across from Town Centre.

The Planning Commission’s 6-2 vote goes to Town Council in the form of a recommendation.
