Mount Pleasant officer praised for pulling man from burning car

Pfc. Amber Simmons

Another Mount Pleasant police officer is being recognized for pulling a man from a burning car.

About 12:15 a.m. June 7, Pfc. Amber Simmons saw a vehicle engulfed in flames on Pitt Street near King Street, Inspector Chip Googe said in an email Monday. A woman was trying to drag him out.

Simmons ran to the car and pulled the man to safety.

“Pfc. Simmons’ quick actions saved the man from serious injury and possible death,” Googe said.

Another officer pulled a man from a burning car last month. About 4:30 a.m. May 30, an intoxicated man crashed his car in the parking lot of Vickery’s and sat inside while the car burned. Cpl. Adam Willis pulled the man from the flames.
