MOUNT PLEASANT — The town is looking at extending its Shem Creek Walk boardwalk along much of the creek’s western edge.

The public can review and comment on the planned park expansion from 6-8 tonight at Mount Pleasant Town Hall.

Town engineer Kevin Mitchell said the proposed expansion continues the master plan previously approved by Town Council and would increase public access at the new park, which opened in 2011.

The project involves giving the town ownership of some deteriorated boardwalks currently privately owned. The town then would rebuild them and open them to the public.

If all goes smoothly, the town would hope to have its permits in hand next year and finish construction work in early 2015, Mitchell said.
