Motorcycle rider dies after wreck on Rivers Avenue in North Charleston

A motorcycle rider injured in a crash on Rivers Avenue on Wednesday afternoon has died.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office identified him as Michael Record, 21, of Summerville.

North Charleston police reported a collision between a motorcycle and another vehicle on Rivers near Wild Wings Cafe shortly around 12:15 p.m. The lanes toward Charleston were closed while officers investigated.

Officers later determined that a Jeep driven by a 52-year-old Zionsville, Ind., woman turned left toward a parking lot and into the path of Record’s motorcycle, which was eastbound on Rivers Avenue, according to an incident report. The investigators faulted the Jeep’s driver, but no charges or citations were immediately filed in the case, police spokesman Spencer Pryor said Thursday.

Record died of his injuries at 7:29 p.m. at Medical University Hospital, Deputy Coroner Kimberly Rhoton said.
