Nearly 1,000 homes and businesses in Charleston County are without power in the wake of a line of severe thunderstorms that pushed through the Lowcountry this afternoon.

A web page for South Carolina Electric & Gas Co. states that as of about 5 p.m., 18 separate “incidents” have caused 943 customers to lose power. SCE&G has 171,577 customers in the county, the site states.

In Dorchester County, SCE&G’s outages numbered 96. The company has 12,726 customers in that County. In Berkeley County, where SCE&G customers number 19,183, outages were put at 17, the site said.

The National Weather Service said a severe thunderstorm warning for eastern Berkeley County, Charleston County and extreme southeastern Dorchester County expired at 4:45 p.m.
