More rain, flooding expected in Charleston area

Heavy rain expected throughout the day Wednesday prompted flooding concerns in the Charleston area.

As rainfall persisted after noon, the Charleston Police Department closed the Bennett Street intersections with Gadsden Street and Ashley Avenue because of flooding.

Up to 2 inches of rain fell between 5:30 and 6:15 a.m. in many areas around Charleston, according to the National Weather Service, in addition to 1 to 3 inches that fell overnight. Another 1 to 2 inches is expected throughout the day.

More rain is in the forecast every day through the weekend.

The chance of more rain is 40 percent Thursday and Friday, according to the weather service.

The chance of rain drops to 30 percent Saturday and Sunday.
