More funding needed for CARTA beach shuttle

A proposal for a CARTA park-and-ride beach shuttle was placed on a back burner Wednesday at a meeting of the organization’s board.

CARTA officials said they want Isle of Palms, Folly Beach and Sullivan’s Island to share in half of the $70,000 operating cost before moving forward with the project.

The shuttle idea had some momentum because Isle of Palms was considering a parking pass program to manage beach overcrowding. On Tuesday, the IOP Council put that plan on hold until next year.
