A missing Summerville man was found safe in Santee, but officials aren’t sure how he got there.

James Edward Harper, of Myers Road, went missing Tuesday evening after walking away from his residence in the Wind Gate Mobile Home Park in Summerville.

He suffers from the early stages of dementia and was considered an endangered adult, according to a media release from the Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Deputy Rick Ollic said a “be on the lookout” alert was sent out statewide and officers in Santee found Harper. He had some lacerations on his legs as if he had been walking in brush, but was in otherwise good condition.

Ollic said he was sent to a local hospital to be checked out as a precaution.
