Memorial scheduled for Columbia officer who died in crash

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A memorial service will be held at the Township Auditorium for a Columbia police officer who died after her patrol car collided with another officer’s vehicle.

Columbia officials say in a release the service for Officer Stacy Case will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Doors will open to the public an hour earlier.

Officer Stacy Case died as a result of injuries she suffered in a crash late Saturday with a University of South Carolina Law Enforcement vehicle.

The university says the campus officer was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

Case joined the police department in 2011 after five years in the Army that included experience with the military police.

The state Highway Patrol is investigating.

Gov. Nikki Haley asks that flags be flown at half-staff Tuesday in Case’s honor.
