Melvin’s Barbecue employee robbed in Mount Pleasant

Mount Pleasant police are investigating an armed robbery reported Monday of a Melvin’s Barbecue employee.

The store’s general manager was walking to his car just after 3 p.m., which was in the back of the Whole Foods parking lot on Houston Northcutt Boulevard, when two men approached and grabbed him. The victim was carrying a bag containing an unknown amount of money from Melvin’s to be deposited at a bank, according to a police report.

The victim told officers the two men demanded the money bag and one of the men had his hand in his pants pocket “as if to present a weapon,” the report states. They allegedly took the bag from the manager and fled the area in an orange Mitsubishi.

The suspects were described as black males, one with longer black dreadlocks and the other with a short haircut, according to the report. Police talked with several witnesses at the scene and searched the area for the Mitsubishi, but did not find it.

There have not been any arrests made in the case. Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
