Meeting set to discuss future of Burke High School’s Stoney Field

Stoney Field at Burke High School has not reopened after heavy rains in August.

A meeting to discuss how to save Burke High School’s Stoney Field is set for Tuesday.

The meeting starts at 3 p.m. at Charleston City Hall, according to state Rep. Wendell Gilliard, D-Charleston.

The football field has not reopened since it was flooded by heavy rainfall in August. Burke played its last home game at The Citadel’s Hagood Stadium, which is next to the school.

Charleston County School District officials have said they are “working with the city of Charleston to develop a long-term plan to support Burke High School football,” including hiring an engineer to do a study of Stoney Field by the end of the year.
