MARINE CORPS AIR STATION BEAUFORT – Marine Corps jets from Air Station Beaufort are training over the area during the next two weeks.

Spokeswoman 1st Lt. Sharon Hyland says training occurs Wednesday through Friday this week and on the same days next week.

Residents may see increased activity north of the Coosaw River to the northern point of Hilton Head Island and from the coast to about 5 miles west of Yemassee.

Hyland says the flights occur four hours a day at about 5,000 to 7,000 feet in altitude to have the least amount of noise impact. The training allows pilots and air controllers the chance to practice their support for ground forces such as is needed in Afghanistan.
