Man wounded in shooting in Wescott neighborhood, North Charleston police say

A man was wounded in a shooting Friday afternoon in Wescott Plantation, North Charleston police reported.

The shooting occurred shortly before 4 p.m. on the neighborhood’s Morning Dew Court, police spokesman Spencer Pryor said.

Witnesses reported seeing a white SUV chasing a Volkswagen Passat down Oak Leaf Drive, police said. A person in the SUV fired several shots toward the Volkswagen as it turned onto Morning Dew Court, Pryor said. Four people ran from Volkswagen, Pryor said, and one man was wounded in the buttocks during the gunfire.

The man was transported to Medical University Hospital for treatment.

A description of the gunman was not known Friday afternoon. The shooting remains under investigation, Pryor said.
