Man wounded in Easter shootout in busy Goose Creek shopping area

A person was shot in the arm during an Easter Sunday shootout in a busy Goose Creek shopping district, according to police.

Officers were flagged down about 5:40 p.m. near the Creekside Shopping Center on North Goose Creek Boulevard. A man told them he had just seen people in a blue car and a gold car shooting at each other, according to the incident report.

As the officers went looking for the vehicles, they got reports of shots fired near McDonald’s on North Goose Creek Boulevard and Bi-Lo on St. James Avenue.

Officers found a large crowd outside Bi-Lo. Witnesses told them people in two vehicles were shooting at each other and fled west on S.C. Highway 176.

Witnesses said one of the vehicles was at the Sunoco at 200 St. James Ave. As officers approached a tan Honda in the parking lot of the gas station, two men fled on foot, Capt. Shawn Laffey said.

One man was apprehended near Brandywine Apartments, while the other was found with a gunshot wound to the forearm near Etiwan Drive and was transported to Trident Hospital, Laffey said.

Officers found three shell casings and two bullet fragments in front of McDonald’s and Pizza Hut, according to the report.

Police believe a dark SUV with large rims was also involved, Laffey said.

No charges had been filed as of Monday afternoon as investigators continue to work the case.
