Man tinkering with car wounded in North Charleston drive-by shooting

A man was wounded in the lower leg Friday afternoon during a drive-by shooting on Beech Avenue in North Charleston, a police spokesman said.

The victim had been working on a vehicle near 2300 Beech Ave. around 3 p.m. when he was shot by someone he likely knew, North Charleston Police Department spokesman Spencer Pryor said.

The gunman fired the shots from inside a black Ford pickup, then drove away, witnesses told the police.

The man's wound was not said to be life-threatening. The authorities announced no immediate arrests.

Beech Avenue is in Union Heights, one of the southernmost areas in the city.
