Man threatening suicide on roof of Trident Medical Center taken to hospital

A man with a shotgun threatening to kill himself Friday morning on the roof of Trident Medical Center eventually surrendered and was taken to a hospital.

The man never threatened anybody else and was taken into custody without incident, Charleston County sheriff’s Maj. Eric Watson said.

North Charleston police officers arrived at the hospital shortly before 11:30 a.m. and requested assistance from the Sheriff’s Office. Hospital staff was instructed to lock the doors. Officers were able to talk the man into surrendering, and EMS took him to an area hospital, Watson said.

Authorities did not release the man’s name.
