A 23-year-old man was shot to death Wednesday night in North Charleston, police said.

The slaying was reported about 9:10 p.m. at 2830 Ranger Drive in the Dorchester-Waylyn community.

The North Charleston Police Department reported the killing publicly Wednesday but did not release further information about it until Friday.

An incident report stated that officers went to the scene and found Shadeed Siraj Price lying in the road. The Martha Drive resident had been shot.

Price died more than a half-hour after the shooting at Medical University Hospital, Charleston County Deputy Coroner Kimberly Rhoton said. He had turned 23 about two weeks ago.

The report contained no details about what might have led to the gunfire. The identity of Price’s killer was not known, it stated.

His death marked the 23rd slaying this year in North Charleston and the 50th in the tri-county area, according to The Post and Courier’s homicide database.
