A man walking along Savannah Highway was shot in the leg shortly after midnight today.
Charleston police were called to the St. Francis Hospital emergency room about 12:30 a.m. to check a patient who had been shot in the leg, according to police spokesman Charles Francis.
Richard Damian Grampus, 30, of Stall Road in North Charleston told police he was walking along the northbound side of Savannah Highway under the Interstate 526 overpass shortly after midnight when he heard what sounded like firecrackers and realized he had been shot in his right leg. Grampus transported himself to the emergency room for medical attention.
Police were sent to the shooting scene. The investigation continues.
